Construction Management Project
This project report was written for the Management of Construction course during my second year of undergraduate studies. The course introduced many important concepts such as legal and ethical considerations, the Safety Act, construction regulations, construction contracts, estimating, bidding, planning, scheduling and the life cycle of a construction project. A major component of the course was to make observations at 16 predetermined construction sites in various parts of Toronto and to visit a construction site of the project groups choosing at the end of the term. The findings by my two peers and I were reported in the final submission for the course.
The report required to identify the on-site stages of development of a construction project and note the differences and similarities of the visited sites. We were also looking out for safety measures taken on each site such as personal protective equipment(PPE) for the workers and scaffolding for the public. In the report, we suggest some possible safety improvements at some sites based on the overall experience gained during the course.
The overall project allowed for a unique experiential learning opportunity. The nature of the paper has allowed me to communicate site observations in a critical manner. The group aspect of the project has given me a better understanding of collaborative document writing and strengthened my teamwork skills which are very relevant in the engineering profession.
