Steel and Timber Design Final Project
This project report was written for the Steel and Timber Design course during my third year of undergraduate studies. The course introduced many important concepts such as identifying componets in steel and timber structure (braces, beams and columns), navigating the CISC Handbook of Steel Construction, designing steel elements using the Canadian steel specifications (S16-19), designing timber components and using the National Building Code of Canada (NBCC 2015).
In this course, we have carried out a concept design of a mid-rise steel structure and detailed design of some of the steel connections within the building. Over the course of the project and the class, I developed the required skills to carry out simple 3D modelling using SAP2000 and to develop my own design spreadsheets for steel members. The design project was done in a team of five and was the first exposure to structural design during my undergraduate studies.
